Our Shared Vision for Longmont
We want Longmont to always be a community where you can grow up, be employed or own a local business, raise a family, and retire comfortably. We want the children who grow up here to be able to raise a family here, and the seniors who have invested time here to be able to retire here. We aim to support Longmont’s small businesses and economic vitality, preserve its family-friendly neighborhoods, and retain its rich culture and history. We want Longmont to continue to lead in innovation, practical solutions, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
How To Get Involved
TERESA SIMPKINS

I am running to be Your Voice on Your Council
After decades in public service, I decided to stretch myself in a different direction in 2022 when I took a marketing position with a company that develops software solutions for government. I love the different challenges of this chapter of my career, but I also sincerely miss public service and being able to share my experience and knowledge to benefit my community. Following the November election, at least half of our City Council will be new members. I strongly feel that there is a place on the Council and specifically in Ward 2 for my experience and background.
What sets me apart? I am a public servant, not a politician.

Growth & Preservation
I believe the greatest challenge facing Longmont right now is continuing to answer the question of who and what we want to be amidst continued growth and the difficulties and opportunities that come with it. In my vision, “managing growth” involves economic sustainability, quality of life, transportation, and housing.

Economic Vitality & Support for Local Businesses
Many people these days like to talk about the importance of sustainability, and I believe one of the key elements of a sustainable community is a sustainable economy. I believe that Longmont’s business community is the economic and social backbone of our city.

The Airport
I strongly believe that there is a way for most of our community to live peacefully alongside our airport, and I will seek to listen to members of the community and business leaders to continually uncover common ground, create practical solutions, and reduce the influence of any single contingent in our community. New technology and aviation innovations are emerging that could eventually offer dramatic changes for our airport and the community around it, and I would enthusiastically welcome greater discussion of these.

Housing
Housing discussions in our city typically focus on four topics: housing availability, housing affordability, sustainable housing, and short-term rentals. I would argue that all types of housing are a necessary component to a thriving community because they each serve a different segment of our diverse population.
Challenges generated by people experiencing homelessness in our community are also top of mind for many. The solutions aren’t simple, but some approaches have proven more effective than others, and those are worth exploring and supporting.

Public Safety
Public safety is a perennial concern for residents and a primary function of local government. Longmont is well-known in our region as a city that embraces community policing, restorative justice, and investment in the best first responders. A difficult and checkered past presented opportunities for reinvention, innovation, and rebuilding, and while no process or outcome is ever perfect, we’ve made significant progress.

A Lifetime in Longmont
A core element to my platform is the idea that Longmont is — and should remain — a city in which a person can be born, grow up, work, raise a family, and retire, without being forced out at any point in that journey by the expense or availability of housing, amenities, or opportunities. I believe a community is a delicate ecosystem of people, places, and activities. When we hit the right balance, together we can create a vibrant, dynamic, and supportive home for everyone.
